Wargaming Musings?

I'm a bit of a butterfly in terms of my attention and sticking to gaming projects long term isn't my strongest point. On the bright side, atleast I flit between the same things. Expect an ecclectic medley of Moderns, Dark Ages, Quar and Early Wild West, almost all in 28mm... (with some 1/48 moderns thrown in... )

Current WiP stuff

Just a quick post with a couple of views from my painting desk - currently working on (yet more) milita and some government forces. The dark green clothing on the milita will be getting a tiger stripe scheme using calthan brown and desert yellow,  and I am currently planning to leave most of the lighter greens as plain fatigues.  I'm not sure about the grey jacket on the guy with the helmet and RPK. It was inspired by JNA uniforms which were floating around during the Balkans wars, and I had toyed with doing it in a camo pattern instead- although I don't think the cut of the jacket would suit?

The government troops are about half way through recieving their knock-off Alpenflage camo...

1/48th vehicle Assets

Just a few snaps of some of the stuff floating around  my desk at the moment.  The models are (in no particular order) a RAFM USX drone, a kitech T72,  a pair of slightly converted kitech btrs (one with a SA-9 SAM turret inspired by a BTR60 somewhere in the real world. The SAM turret comes with the kit, and is designed to fit behind the machine gun turret in a slot which I have filled in), a Corgi (?) Land rover and a Burgaro jeep. The 28mm figure is a Brittania Malayan emergency CT, who is about the same size as a Foundry figure.

HLBS and The Warstore 1/48th compatibility

I have been looking for potential sources of additional figures to bolster my forces, such as the Dust figures or the Graven Images range.  There is a company (I believe the War Store) which has recently been advertising 1/48th civilians on eBay,  some of which looked like they would have potential as milita or armed civilians.  The test figure I ordered is shown in the centre of the picture.  It came with a slotta base which I removed and replaced with a Rendera plastic base. The casting and sculpting are both good, and from my perspective they fit well with the HLBS stuff.  I added a weapon from TAG, which fits fairly well with the HLBS weapons as I showed the other year.  Overall, very pleased and will probably pick up some more at some stage :-)

Recent 40mm acquisitions

Just thought I'd pop up some pictures of my more recent 40mm acquisitions - some were duplicates (the 90s GIs and most of the Russians) but hopefully I can do some conversions to get them to fit in :-)

Updates

Well, that last post seemed to have worked (atleast well enough for Danny to have commented - thanks mate!), and attaching photos from my phone is far less laborious than the usual rigmarole with photo bucket, although there does appear to be a limit regarding the flexibility of the system to let me post captions and the like, in addition to any limitations from my phone camera.

So, what have I been up to in the last gods know how long - quite a bit.  In my usual inestimable way, I have drifted between projects, but atleast I have been productive with it - I may get around to taking lots of photos of what I have done,  but for now saying that there has been a lot of 20mm cold war stuff, more  28mm Malayan Emergency stuff (hence the bungalow in my last post...), quite a bit of 28mm martial arts stuff for A Fistful of Kung Fu and most recently I have started back on the 40mm moderns (ironically I started it before things started kicking off in the Ukraine,  although as happened with Georgia in 2008 the real world seems to cast uninvited unpleasant parallels with a project I have just started! ).

The 40mm HLBS stuff has been the main inspiration for getting the blog back up and running - there are so few resources and pictures of the range left online that I thought I'd share my experiences and collection in case anyone else is/will be/has been tracking stuff down.

Back to the Blog

This is just a test post to see how easy or otherwise it might be to Blog from my mobile... The attached picture has some of the 40mm moderns I am planning to base tonight, along with the Brittania Malayan emergency bungalow...

And another 'catching up' update....

I remembered that in the last post I had forgotten about more 20mm's: 2 squads worth of Soviet Motor rifles in the classic brown uniforms, and another 2 squads in NBC gear, and 5 downed US aircrew....So yes, I've been a bit busy/productive during my absence. I also found a few pictures from back in the summer that shows some of my completed/WiP work :)

Assorted WinterApoc conversions

Saga stuff! we, actually, not for Saga.... but it's a good saying none the less! Mainly rebases, although all the ghostly celts and tree spirits where new paint jobs
Assorted 20mm Cold War bits and some newly painted 'Arthurians'
Slightly blurry Athrurians and some rivers which I had forgotten about doing...!
Most of the dark ages types are still pretty much like this, but the 20mm's in the back ground have all been done...
